This new series of netlabel-releases brings to you music from artists involved with the Berlin Holzmund concerts. We aim to strengthen the bonds of our community, and share its precious outcome with you.
“Tension” is the first release produced by Holzmund-resident Ampheep. This project is built upon sounds originating from a recording session back in 2013, together with Jaime McGill improvising on her bass clarinet. The wooden instrument connected to sound effects, Jaime created percussive impulses and melodic elements. Ampheep provided an immersive environment of artificial drones, vibrating with a seductive acoustic feel. The tone of the whole session was inspired by the warm autumn light in the studio right by the river Spree.
The two ambient tracks share a rich background of constantly moving textures, as well as simple harmonic and rhythmic elements sneeking into the main focus of the listener. “Session One” comes with a surprising second half, drifting into an almost ritualistic pattern. The epic “Session Two” works a more elaborate theme, carefully groping for several evolving variations.
